a quick fix

Somewhere along the lines this term was commandeered by junkies in search of an expedited high. I do not advocate quick fixes in that sense.

I do, like fast, practical solutions to everyday problems. One everyday problem I deal with is an over-sized ear canal. Well, I don't know if it's exactly over-sized, I just know that my ipod earbuds do not fit in my left ear. Laugh all you want, it's my cross to carry ok?

What did I do? Well, after several frustrating attempts of jamming the earbud into my ear and it popping out, I put a little rubberband (I kept because of my prophetic hoarding tendencies) around the bud and now it's as snug as a bug in an rug/ear.

If you share the same genetic burden as I do, give this little wonder a try. You might not have the same cool rubber band, but i'm sure a thinner one wrapped several times would work just as well.

Ashley is particularly fond of the can-of-diet-coke for a quick fix.

Do you guys have any ingenious quick fixes you'd like to share with us?

I'm with Ashley, a can of diet coke will fix most of what ails me. But if I think if any other quick fixes I'll let ya know.

It is funny that you should mention Ashley's "quick fix" because the reason I am checking blogs right now is because I was reading my pregnancy book and the delivery part was so disturbing that I had to have a diet coke and surf the net to unwind. A perfect quick fix. I feel better already.

Duct tape and safety pin, and a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the freezer: top 3 quick fixes in our household.

I once stopped a leak in a basement window of our house by using a roll of duct tape and a few grocery store plastic bags. It worked until the landlord came and fixed it. I also used duct tape to hold a couch on the back of a pick up truck. It has many uses and I keep a supply of it in my car.

Since we just moved in to our new place, we have had to figure out lots of quick fixes. Scott is pretty handy, and he fixed a lot of stuff.

The one quick fix I am responsible for: our new metal shower caddy kept sliding off the metal shower head. Really annoying. I decided we needed something rubbery to keep it in place. I went to Home Depot (which is like another planet to me...) and found some thick rubber electrical tape. Wrap it around the pipe, and no more slipping.

Also, my food quick fix is ice breakers sours. I keep them on hand at work, and they trick my body into thinking I'm getting some sugar.

I'm afraid the people at Caribou Coffee know me by name, and know what I drink (medium caramel highrise). My co-worker Cathy has a similar habit, and if we're working at the same time, one or the other of us will get both drinks. I can just tell them, "I need my drink and Cathy's" and they know what to do. I also nearly always have a granola bar in my purse, because you never know when you will really need a granola bar. It would be fairly useless in fixing ear buds or shower caddies, however. I've been sitting here trying to think of something I've actually fixed, and I'm really coming up short.

Wait...does grammar count? I actually got a letter from the governor today (canned letter sent to every 8th grader) with a dangling participle. Can you believe it? If you need an proofreader/editor, I am an excellent fixer.
